Healthy pacing is a shared choice, not a schedule

Pacing means paying attention to willingness, control and comfort in the present. A calendar cannot decide those things for a person.

Identify what needs more space

You may need time to understand an object, discuss a boundary or recover energy. Name the specific issue. A vague instruction to relax can sound like another demand. Ask whether an alternative or no activity is preferred.

Keep stopping simple

Discuss how to pause or stop before starting something unfamiliar. Respect the answer immediately and allow a pause to be an ending. A previous plan, physical response or purchase does not establish permission to continue.

Do not use pacing as treatment

Slower is not a universal remedy for pain or distress. Stop if something hurts and seek appropriate care for persistent or severe symptoms. This guide cannot assess recovery after a medical event, prescribe a progression or promise a desired response.
